Electrophoretic coating is a cutting-edge technology where the painted object, acting as the anode in an anodic electrophoresis setup, is immersed in a water-soluble paint. A cathode is placed accordingly, and direct current is passed between the two poles. The seamless process flow of electrophoretic coating for metal surfaces includes: Pre-cleaning → On-line → Oil removal → Washing → Rust removal → Washing → Neutralization → Washing → Phosphating → Washing → Passivation → Electrophoretic coating → Tank cleaning → Ultra-filtration → Drying → Off-line.
Electrophoretic coating comprises four concurrent processes that work in harmony.
1. Electrophoresis: In a DC electric field, charged colloidal particles migrate towards their respective oppositely charged electrodes, a phenomenon also known as swimming.
2. Electrolysis: Distinct redox reactions occur at each electrode, leading to oxidation and reduction phenomena on the electrodes.
3. Electrodeposition: Charged colloidal particles are driven to the anode's vicinity, where they release electrons and deposit in an insoluble state, forming a paint film.
