Electrophoretic coating, a pioneering technology, involves immersing the object to be painted in water-soluble paint, serving as the anode (anodic electrophoresis). A corresponding cathode is established, and direct current flows between these electrodes, ensuring an even coat of paint on the object through the current's physical and chemical effects.
The sophisticated process flow of electrophoretic coating on general metal surfaces is meticulously structured as follows: Pre-cleaning → On-line → Oil removal → Washing → Rust removal → Washing → Neutralization → Washing → Phosphating → Washing → Passivation → Electrophoretic coating → Cleaning in the tank → Ultra-filtration → Drying → Off-line.
Electrophoretic coating comprises four integral, simultaneous processes that harmonize to deliver optimal results.

1. Electrophoresis: Under the influence of a DC electric field, positively and negatively charged colloidal particles navigate towards opposite poles, a phenomenon also known as swimming.
2. Electrolysis: Redox reactions occur at the electrodes, leading to oxidation and reduction phenomena at the respective electrodes.
3. Electrodeposition: Colloidal particles, driven by electrophoresis, migrate towards the anode, releasing electrons and depositing in an insoluble state. This process forms a paint film on the template surface.
4. Electroosmosis: While the solid phase remains stationary under the electric field's action, the liquid phase moves. Electroosmosis expels water from the paint film, resulting in a dense, high-resistance film with minimal water content, effectively halting current flow.
5. Taking Iron Red Epoxy Electrophoresis Paint as an example: The system includes modified epoxy resin, butanol, ethanol amine, talc, and iron red substances. Mixed with distilled water, the paint undergoes DC electric field-induced separation into charged cations and anions, leading to a series of intricate physical, chemical, and electrochemical changes.
Electrophoretic coating boasts rapid construction speed, enabling mechanized and automatic continuous operations. This reduces labor intensity while ensuring a uniform, strong adhesion paint film, even on challenging areas like fascia plate welding seams, which traditional methods struggle to coat.
