Electrophoretic coating is a cutting-edge coating technology where the painted object, acting as the anode (anodic electrophoresis), is immersed in water-soluble paint. A corresponding cathode is established, and a direct current is passed between the two poles. This causes the paint to evenly coat the object through a combination of physical and chemical interactions facilitated by the current.
The meticulous process flow of electrophoretic coating on general metal surfaces includes the following steps: Pre-cleaning → On-line → Oil removal → Washing → Rust removal → Washing → Neutralization → Washing → Phosphating → Washing → Passivation → Electrophoretic coating → Cleaning on the tank → Ultra-filtration → Drying → Off-line.
Electrophoretic coating encompasses four simultaneous and interrelated processes.
1. Electrophoresis: Under the influence of a DC electric field, colloidal particles with positive and negative charges move toward the corresponding oppositely charged electrodes, a process often referred to as 'swimming.'
2. Electrolysis: Redox reactions occur at the respective electrodes, resulting in oxidation and reduction phenomena.
